The next-generation Maruti Celerio will be launched in October this year and will be an all-new car from the ground up. We tell you more about what you can expect:

  • Second-gen Celerio will be based on the Wagon R’s platform.
  • New Celerio likely to come with two petrol engine options.
  • Will be slightly longer and wider than the outgoing car.

2020 Maruti Suzuki Celerio to get new exterior and interior look

The upcoming Maruti Celerio will be a full generation change and not a mere facelift, replacing the first-gen car that has been around since 2014. The second-gen car will sport fresh styling and will sit on the same ‘Heartect’ platform as the current-gen Wagon R.

Sources tell us the new Celerio will grow in size too and is expected to have a longer wheelbase and a wider cabin than the outgoing car. Although the test mules seen in the photos are heavily covered, they do give us a hint of the car’s increased dimensions.

Just like the exterior, the new Celerio will also get a fresh cabin layout. Details are scarce as of now, but it is safe to assume the model will share a lot of parts with other Maruti Suzuki cars, and will come with features like the SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system on higher variants.

What will power the next-gen Maruti Suzuki Celerio?

While the outgoing car was sold with a single, 1.0-litre petrol engine for most of its life, the new Celerio will likely come with two engine options, just as the Maruti Wagon R does. Alongside the 1.0-litre petrol will likely be the more powerful 1.2-litre K-series petrol. Gearbox choices will likely include a five-speed manual and an AMT automatic as well.

What will the next-gen Celerio rival?

The new Celerio will continue to rival the Tata Tiago and also the Hyundai Santro, just like its predecessor. However, with the more powerful engine and a more spacious cabin, it could even give competition to models like the Hyundai Grand i10.
