An additional Rs 2.45 lakh is quite a hefty premium you need to pay for the Fortuner TRD over the standard model. But let's see what you get for the extra dough.

For starters, the cosmetic updates are quite similar to the which was launched back in September 2019. There is black garnish and a 'TRD' logo in the front grille while the front and rear bumper look sportier than the standard model. You also get 18-inch blacked-out alloy wheels as well as a blacked-out roof. 'TRD' badging at the rear denotes that you're driving the special variant.

Inside, the Fortuner TRD's dashboard and upholstery utilises a sportier red and black theme. That's about it. And while it retains all the features from the standard Fortuner, the TRD benefits from a 360-degree parking camera, illuminated scuff plates and auto-folding ORVMs.

Toyota also offers the Fortuner TRD with optional accessories under the 'special technology' package. This includes kit such as head-up display, a tyre pressure monitor, digital video recorder (DVR), wireless smartphone charger for rear passenger, air ionizer and a welcome door lamp. Considering the hefty premium Toyota is charging, we feel these features should be offered as standard in this edition.

The Toyota Fortuner TRD is offered with the 2.8-litre diesel engine that delivers 177PS and 450Nm of torque. A 6-speed torque converter automatic is the sole transmission choice. You can have it with an all-wheel drivetrain along with the rear-wheel drive variant. Nope, the petrol engine isn't offered in the Fortuner TRD.

So what do we think about the Fortuner TRD? Well, it's the variant to go for only if you badly want your Fortuner to stand out from the crowd. In every other case, we suggest you purchase one of the standard variants as the Fortuner TRD offers very little value for money for the premium it commands.
