 Garelli Ciclone E4 Revealed

Italian motorcycle company Garelli is one of the oldest companies around. The bikemaker sold scooters and small-capacity motorcycles but had to shut shop in 1987. It was revived in 2019 and now sells electric mopeds and e-bikes. The Italian marque has updated its Ciclone E4 e-moped lineup which now offers more performance. The Ciclone lineup comprises Ciclone Soul, Ciclone Urban and Ciclone Cross. Garelli sells its mopeds across Europe with prices for the new E4 Ciclone starting at EUR 4,500 (Rs 3.98 lakh).

The Ciclone E4 now comes with a more powerful 4kW (up from 2kW) hub-mounted electric motor that puts out 160Nm of peak torque. It now has a top speed of 70kmph (up from 45kmph). That’s quite a lot given the compact dimensions of the e-moped. Power comes from a 2kWh removable battery pack. The Ciclone E4 gets three riding modes. While the slowest mode offers a range of 110km, with the quickest mode, range will drop to 70km.

Like most mopeds, the Ciclone E4 gets a tubular underbone frame and upmarket suspension in the form of upside down forks and a horizontally mounted monoshock. It gets 220mm disc brakes at both ends mounted to 13-inch alloy wheels. Depending on the variant, you can opt for street or dual-purpose tyres. The Ciclone weighs a scant 79kg and can carry a payload of 150kg. It gets all-LED lighting and a digital LCD instrument console.

Cool-looking electric mopeds have great potential to be affordable city runabouts, ride sharing vehicles or even beach getaway scooters. We can think of some mopeds in India that could benefit from an electric motor. Maybe TVS could come out with an E-XL or Honda could revive the Navi with an electric Nav-E.
