The 2020 Auto Expo, just like this year, wasn’t a particularly wonderful event, especially for two-wheelers. With few brands participating, expectations were pretty low, but Aprilia had some other plans as it showcased the all-new SXR 160. Dubbed a ‘cross-maxi,’ the new Aprilia scooter is based on the sporty SR 160 but promises to deliver on the practical end as well.

Bookings and deliveries for the scooter was supposed to start in mid-2020, but COVID-19 had different plans. When we spoke to Piaggio India’s MD and CEO, Diego Graffi, sometime back, he had mentioned that launch has been delayed and it would take place in September. Now, he has confirmed again that the launch has been further delayed and the Aprilia SXR 160 would go on sale in November 2020.

Although Graffi hasn’t shared the reason for the delay, we expect it to be due to the lockdown that might have delayed commitments from vendors as the manufacturing sector was hit hard. As for pricing, the Aprilia SXR 160 will be the most premium scooter from the Italian brand for India. We expect it to carry a sticker price of around Rs 1.24 lakh (ex-showroom), which will also make it among the most expensive scooters on sale in India.
