Hero Maestro Edge 110 BS6 Spec Comparison

Hero is all set to launch the Maestro Edge 110 soon. The 110cc scooter gets an updated fuel injected motor which Hero claims is more powerful and fuel efficient than before. When launched, it will go up against other popular 110cc scooters like the Honda Activa 6G and TVS Jupiter BS6. Here’s how the upcoming Hero scooter stacks up against the two on paper:

The Hero Maestro Edge 110 BS6 not only gets a slightly larger motor, but it also makes more peak power. Even peak torque output here is second only to the Honda Activa 6G. Thanks to fuel injection, the Maestro Edge 110 BS6 does not lose out on performance compared to its carburetted BS4 predecessor. In fact peak torque is up by 0.05Nm.

The Maestro Edge 110 gets an ECU along with a lot of sensors like crank position sensor, engine oil temperature sensor, manifold air pressure sensor, throttle position sensor and air inlet position sensor. Together they are expected to offer a smoother ride quality, better performance and improved throttle response. The new scooter, however, misses out on a starter generator which the Honda Activa 6G and the Jupiter Grande BS6 gets.

The TVS Jupiter BS6’s FI motor is claimed to be 15 percent more fuel efficient than its BS4 predecessor. On the other hand, the Honda Activa BS6 claims a 10 percent improvement in fuel efficiency over its BS4 predecessor.  In addition, the Honda also features friction reduction measures like an offset cylinder, compact crankshaft and optimised piston to help improve refinement.

While the Hero Maestro Edge 110 BS6 gets an underbody frame and a telescopic fork similar to the other two scooters, it misses out on preload adjustability for the rear monoshock. Like the Activa, the Maestro Edge 110 continues to use drum brakes with CBS on both wheels.

Until recently, even the Jupiter BS6 came with a front drum brake. TVS has now launched a new Jupiter ZX variant with a front disc brake. It is also the only scooter here with 12-inch wheels at both ends, which should help improve ride quality.

The Maestro Edge 110 BS6’s ground clearance is at the lower size but given its smaller wheelbase, that should not pose much of an issue while navigating large speed breakers.  It has the tallest seat height here but it should be accessible for shorter riders as well. It is the heaviest scooter as well, so that will take some zing out of the performance. Also, the small fuel tank could limit range compared to other scooters here.

The longer wheelbase and larger 12-inch wheels on both ends make the Jupiter a stable scooter out on the highways. Its seat height is similar to the Activa 6G. The Activa 6G has the highest ground clearance of the three and is the lightest scooter here. It also gets an external fuel filler cap like the other two scooters here.

While the Maestro Edge 110’s prices have not yet been announced, we expect the scooter to be priced in the range of Rs 58,000 to Rs 59,000. Pricing has always been one of Hero’s USPs and could be the case here too. While the Maestro Edge lacks the premium feel and features (lacks a starter generator) of its rivals, it is expected to offer good performance with a sporty ride and handling package.

Hero Maestro Edge 110 BS6 Spec Comparison

The Honda Activa 6G DLX variant is the one to go for as it comes with an LED headlamp in addition to other features like a starter generator and engine kill switch. While all variants of the Jupiter get an LED headlamp, we’d pick the ZX disc variant. Apart from being the only variant to get a disc brake, the ZX disc gets a starter generator, an all-in-one lock and a front glovebox.

If you are looking for an affordable scooter, the upcoming Hero Maestro Edge 110 BS6 should work for you. While the Honda Activa 6G offers refinement and reliability, the Jupiter, despite being priced higher, offers more in terms of practicality and safety.
