- New-gen Thar to launch in India on October 2.
on October 2. We recently drove the pre-production SUV and came away quite impressed. The lifestyle SUV was outstanding both on rough surfaces and tarmac. Now, a production-spec Thar has been spotted in the country with a honeycomb mesh behind its slatted grille.
Mahindra has stated that this honeycomb mesh will be offered on the series production model. Though a discrete design, this mesh grille protects critical components such as the radiator and intercooler from insects. The honeycomb mesh is also a much required shield as the Thar's grille is big enough to swallow a small bird.
This mesh grille was not present on the pre-production vehicle we got to review earlier. Even on the previous-gen Thar, this added piece of protection was provided as an accessory for Rs 1,500 plus charges. It used to sit in front of the slatted grille. The new one is more subtle.
The new-gen Thar is offered with two engine options: a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel. The petrol engine develops 150PS and 300Nm (320Nm in AT) while the diesel model puts out 130PS and 300Nm. Both engines can be had with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Find out how the new-gen Thar performs in our.
Prices for the new Thar will be revealed on October 2 and we expect a starting price of Rs 9.75 lakh (ex-showroom). The Thar currently doesn't have any rivals and will fight it out with the upcoming.
