TVS Motors has launched a new variant of the popular Apache RTR 200 4V in India. The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V single-channel ABS variant has been priced at Rs 1,23,500 (ex-showroom Delhi). This makes the new single-channel ABS variant Rs 5000 cheaper than the dual-channel variant. The move by TVS to introduce a single-channel ABS variant doesn’t come as a surprise as the BS6 transition had hiked prices of the 200cc motorcycle significantly. Additionally, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has affected the purchasing powers of consumers and the price drop should help TVS improve sales. Although, we will always suggest spending the extra premium since a dual-channel ABS unit is safer. Also Read: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V BS6 Road Test
Apart from the new ABS unit, there are no other changes to the new RTR 200 4V variant. It received a styling update recently with an inclusion of an LED headlight, the design of which can be a bit polarising. In terms of tech, the Apache RTR 200 4V gets GTT (Glide Through Technology) that bumps up the revs to prevent the engine from stalling, and TVS SmartXonnect that helps you pair your smartphone with the bike. Powering the bike is a BS6-compliant, 198cc, single-cylinder motor with fuel injection that delivers 20.5PS and 16.8Nm. It continues to use a 5-speed gearbox with slipper clutch. Underpinnings like the frame, brakes, suspension and wheels have been carried from the dual-channel ABS variant. The RTR 200 4V is the only bike in its segment to feature a radial rear tyre.
TVS have been very secretive about their future product portfolio. They recently launched the Ntorq 125 with new colours, while the highly anticipated TVS Zeppelin cruiser is likely to be launched in 2021, if TVS has plans to do the same.
