’Tis the season of MotoGP liveried two-wheelers. Yamaha and Suzuki have been quite busy releasing MotoGP editions of their popular products. This time round, it is the former that has donned up its Cygnus X125 sporty scooter with the factory Monster Energy colours for the Japanese market.
This same treatment was given to the 2021 Yamaha R3 which will be launched in India by next year. The company’s flagship sportbike, the YZF-R1, too got a limited edition series with the satellite Petronas Yamaha colours. Suzuki has been releasing MotoGP editions of loads of its products, with the 100th anniversary colours now making their way onto the Gixxer SF 250.
On the Cygnus X125, Yamaha hasn’t changed around the body panels at all. You do find a gold-coloured tuning fork logo on the beak, reminiscent of the one found on the YZR-M1. There are a few Monster Energy badges and factory racing team badges to make you aware that it is, in fact, the MotoGP edition. Lastly, the pillion grab rail isn’t body coloured but rather features the same deep blue of the racer.
No performance boosts here as the 124cc single-cylinder air-cooled 4-valve mill continues to dish out 9.8PS and 9.9Nm. It is suspended by a telescopic fork and monoshock with disc brakes at both ends.
While we might never see the Cygnus X125 in India, we hope the same Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP colours make their way onto the sporty RayZR 125. The scooter is a fun little runabout that delivers well on performance and fuel efficiency (read our road test here). The addition of the colours would definitely make it more visually appealing.
