Watch Video Review

TVS introduced the 2021 Apache RTR 200 4V to celebrate its four million global sales milestone. Little did we know that the company has a huge surprise in store for us enthusiasts. Not only did the brand update the bike with new colours, but more importantly it equipped the RTR with some segment-first features that are usually seen on much bigger bikes. Intrigued? Here’s a lowdown on all the changes on the 2021 Apache RTR 200 4V

Choose Between Three Ride Modes:

You can now switch between three engine maps -- Sport, Urban and Rain. If you switch to Sport mode, you'll have all 28.82 ponies and 17.25NM of torque available at your disposal along with sharper throttle response. In fact, these power figures are actually better than the current BS6 bike by 0.32PS and 0.45Nm. Sport mode also dials back the ABS intrusion to its least setting allowing you to brake late in corners on a track.

Urban mode, meant for the city commutes, cuts the power down to 17.32PS and 16.51Nm and offers a linear power delivery with better fuel efficiency. However, the top speed of the bike is restricted to about 105kmph as opposed to the Sport mode which allows you to push the RTR to a claimed top speed of 127kmph. For better safety, the ABS system is more intrusive than Sport mode.

There's no difference between Rain and Urban mode when it comes down to power outputs. The ABS, though, is configured to be more sensitive which prevents wheel lock-ups in wet/damp conditions. What’s worth noting is the fact that switching between modes alters the RPM at which the shift light comes on.

Interestingly, TVS has managed to incorporate ride modes in spite of using a cable-operated throttle. This has also helped the brand keep costs in check and price the bike competitively.

Gets Adjustable Brake & Clutch Levers

The 2021 RTR 200 4V also gets 3 step adjustable brake and clutch levers (segment-first) -- a fad that started off with the KTM 390 Duke in the affordable motorcycle segment.

Most Affordable Bike With An Adjustable Front Fork

More importantly, the RTR 200 4V is the most affordable bike in India to come equipped with a preload-adjustable front fork courtesy of Showa -- manufacturer of high-performance automotive, motorcycle suspension systems.

Lighter By One Kg?

Despite these additions, TVS has somehow managed to shed 1kg of weight from the bike. This essentially gives it a better power-to-weight ratio of 189.6PS/ton compared to the current-gen BS6 motorcycle.

All For Just Rs 1,000 More?

You’d probably expect TVS to charge a bomb for these updates, but it surprisingly hasn’t. In fact, the 2021 Apache RTR 200 4V, at Rs 1.31 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), is just Rs 1,000 more expensive than the current BS6 dual-channel ABS variant. The bike is even available in a striking new matte blue colour option.

Just in case you’re wondering, the above-mentioned updates are offered over and above the current features which include, GTT (Glide Through Traffic), a Bluetooth enabled digital console and TVS’ SmartXConnect app. These updates sure do make the RTR 200 4V one of the best value propositions in the 200cc segment.
