The next-gen S-Class is likely to be offered in its long wheelbase form, like the current model. The carmaker is yet to confirm the exact engines powering the India-spec model, but we expect it to come with petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains. Currently, the outgoing S-Class is offered with 367PS 3.0-litre petrol and 286PS 3.0-litre diesel engines. Both engines are mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The S-Class' design is evolutionary rather than revolutionary. But that might be a good thing as it looks luxurious and is high on style. People using the S-Class to make a statement on the red carpet won't be disappointed. But where Mercedes has taken the game forward is the interior ambience.

It's dominated by five screens, all running on Mercedes' MBUX software. Rear seat occupants are given top priority thanks to the aircraft style twin seat arrangement. They are further pampered with individual zones of climate control, entertainment screens, rear sun blinds, massaging seats, and a massive panoramic sunroof.

The existing S-Class is priced from Rs 1.38 crore (ex-showroom). Considering the enormous list of upgrades, the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class won't come cheap and is likely to be priced from Rs 1.5 crore (ex-showroom). The Maybach version could well cost over the Rs 2 crore mark, but the luxury and style statement these cars pack will ensure your money has been well spent.
