  • Reports from Europe claim that Ferrari is planning to expand its GT lineup with mass production models.
  • The new GT model could be powered by a V6 hybrid.
  • Could be priced below the Portofino convertible.
  • Unlikely to make it to India anytime soon.

Back in March this year, revealed that it is planning to unveil five new models as a part of the Italian carmaker's refreshed lineup. Two models have already been revealed: the F8 Tributo and the SF90 Stradale. Two more models have been confirmed for reveal at a special two-week event at the Fiorano Circuit in September. And now, reports from Europe suggest that the 5th model could be a new GT car with an expected November reveal.

Ferrari's Chairman John Elkann has hinted at Maranello's plans to expand its GT lineup in an attempt to bank more sales via mass production cars. What supports this GT theory is that the two models set to debut in September could be the Purosangue SUV and the Spider. While these models could expand the GT segment, the 812 Superfast's hefty price tag of over 300,000 dollars (Rs 2.14 crore) isn't exactly mass market.

If the new GT model is slated for a November reveal the timing would be apt as it will fall in line with Ferrari's five model plan for 2019. While details about the new model have not been revealed, it is expected to be powered by a V6 hybrid motor. This could fit in with the role of a higher volume car with an expected price tag slotting below the entry-level which is priced at Rs 3.50 crore in the Indian market (ex-showroom, Delhi).

In the end, we would get to know more about the new GT model once Ferrari reveals their two new models in September. There's no word yet on whether these models or the new GT car will make it to Indian shores anytime soon. We can expect some clarity on the matter once these models are introduced in the international market.
